Shen's Lab Overview

Our research is highly multidisciplinary, spanning chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, and biology, with the goal of developing innovative and transformative separation technologies for energy and environmental applications. The core focus areas include:

  1. Design of high-performance sorbents for advanced separation processes, such as contaminant removal and resource recovery.
  2. Fundamental studies of membrane transport and morphology, particularly in brine treatment and mineral recovery.
  3. Development of biomimetic materials for selective and efficient separation.

Our group leads several federally funded research projects totaling multiple millions of dollars and has published peer-reviewed articles in top-tier journals.
